CUT breaks new ground with events management degree

Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) is introducing a new degree
programme to cater for the growing needs of various sectors of the events
industry. Studies towards the new degree, a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in
Event Design and Operations, are set to commence when the institution open
for the next semester in August.
“The Events sector of the Travel and Tourism Industry is one of the world’s
fastest growing sectors with the numbers and diversity of events increasing
daily, ranging from: sport and recreation events to professional meetings,
conventions, fairs, festivals, expositions, fund raising, corporate and
entertainment events. The Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Event
Design and Operations is therefore designed to equip students with operational,
scientific, managerial and entrepreneurial skills, expertise and knowledge
required in the successful design and management of an event,” said the
university in a statement.
The university highlighted the various career opportunities which the degree
qualification could open for holders on completion of their studies which range
from staring own events-related businesses to formal employment in various
capacities.
“After successful completion of the degree programme, students will be able to
start and run their own event-based business ventures. Graduates will also be
employable as event manager, event designer, event marketing consultant, hotel
or corporate functions manager, banqueting coordinator, amusement park
manager, convention and visitors’ bureau manager, festival event manager and
events catering manager careers. Graduates may choose to embark on post-
graduate studies which can lead to academic professions,” said part of the
statement.
Admission into the programme is by normal, special or mature entry. Holders
of at least a National Diploma in Event Design and Operations or its acceptable
equivalent from a recognized institution, may be considered for special entry.
Candidates who are at least 25 years of age for males and 23 of age for females
and have passed five ordinary level subjects normally including Mathematics
and English are considered for mature entry.
