The ZITF Co, which organises the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair and other shows, is looking for a Chief Executive Officer to lead the parastatal. The company issued a vacancy advertisement this week inviting applicants to fill up the CEO’s post.

According to the advertisement, the successful applicant is expected to provide leadership to the company. The company described the job of the CEO as follows;

“The Chief Executive Officer provides leadership in the form of guidance and supervision of all departments so that each department achieves its set targets in terms of business growth, human resources growth and management, efficiency in operating expenses, profits and direction of the business to ensure that shareholder business objectives are realised and maximum return on investment is achieved.”

Apart from other qualifications, expected of a CEO, the company emphasised that “a bias towards business development will be a distinct advantage.”

This ties in with the expectation of the company’s shareholder, the Government of Zimbabwe’s thrust of re-positioning and revitalising the company. This was spelt out when the Ministry of Industry and Commerce appointed the ZITF Company Chairman, Busisa Moyo in March this year.

“The Minister (Sekai Nzenza) is confident (that) Busisa Moyo’s business acumen and experience will be resourceful in re-positioning, modernizing & transforming ZITF into a formidable regional & international player,” the ministry said in a statement at the time.

When appointed, the new CEO would replace the previous substantive incumbent, Nomathemba Ndlovu, who left the company at the end of July 2018 after serving as its general manager for five years. Nick Ndebele has been the acting general manager since then.

The changeover from a general manager to a CEO also speaks of a company that is intent on turning around its fortunes.
