The ninth edition of the Zim Cake Expo is set to be held on Saturday in Harare this weekend, the organisers of the event have confirmed. The event will run under the theme: “A Celebration of Cake Art. A Celebration of the Zim Cake Artist.”
In a pre-event editorial note issued today, the organisers, ZimEvents and Exhibitions and Events, indicated that they were ready to host the expo.
“This year, the main purpose of the Zim Cake Expo is to present a physical platform to 45 plus to cake artists and designers to display their cake art to a broader target audience. Furthermore, this has a positive effect of enabling the cake artists to gain customer leads for the upcoming year of 2022 and 2023. The secondary purpose for the event is to present a networking platform among cake artists and cake designers so that they can create synergies in the future,” said the host company’s founder and strategist, Farai Chakabuda in the note.
Turning to event safety issues, Chakabuda assured participants, visitors and other stakeholders that Covid-19 safety protocols would be followed.
“The event will follow strict Covid-19 protocols of maintaining three sanitising stations and the mandatory wearing of masks by all exhibitors and guests attending the event at all times. Social distancing has been incorporated in the layout of event equipment in the event area. The stipulated number of event attendance of a maximum of 100 people will be adhered to. Throughout the duration of the event, announcements will be made regularly to encourage guests to continue wearing face masks, sanitising before entering the event venue and when leaving,” she said.
Another additional safety measure put in place is the pre-booking of visitors which reduces the possible spreading of the Covid-19 virus through the exchange of bank notes and use of swipe cards when paying entry fees.
Unlike the previous editions of the event which were held mostly in Mount Pleasant, Saturday’s event is set to be held at the Harare Club in the capital city’s central business district. This is expected to make it easier for many cake enthusiasts and stakeholders to attend the events given the centrality of the location of the venue.
Some of the event’s highlights include door prizes, under which the first 10 visitors to arrive at the venue at 10 o’clock in the morning will get full cakes. Other activities include a quiz and a raffle draw. Cake tasting, which is set to start at 11 o’clock, will and continue for the duration of the event is also part of the event activities. The organisers will be issued with scorecards which will be used in voting for the tastiest and the most outstandingly decorated cake of the event. Some of the prizes for the tastiest cake include a 5-burner gas unit sponsored by T & C Gas Equipment and Accessories as well as a celebration luncheon for six, courtesy of Food Gala Hospitality Group.
