Construction industry readies for AGM, excellence awards

The Zimbabwe Construction Industry Association (ZCIA) is set to hold its Annual General Meeting, Conference and the inaugural Construction Industry Excellence Awards from Thursday to Saturday this week at Troutbeck Inn in Nyanga.

The event is set to be held under the theme: “Reshaping the built environment by harnessing the fourth industrial revolution for sustainable development goals.”

According to the association, the three-day event “brings together all construction stakeholders to collaborate and share ideas on how to improve our built environment industry.”

The Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Daniel Garwe and the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, July Moyo are expected to be the main speakers during the conference. Other speakers include ZCIA President Tsitsi Dzvukamanja, National Building Society (NBS) Chief Executive Officer, Tapera Mushoriwa, Mashonaland Holdings Managing Director, Gibson Mapfidza, Industrial Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) Climate Finance Manager, Dr Nqobizitha Dube, ZESA Pension Fund Project Manager, Lloyd Ngoro and Zimbabwe Investment and the Development Agency (ZIDA) Chief Development Officer, Engineer Silibaziso Chizwina among others.

During the course of this month, the association has been “calling for all players in the built environment to submit their previous projects and be part of the inaugural ZCIA Excellence Awards (for) 2022.” The submissions closing date was 21 May 2023.

The association is set to recognise and reward construction industry players in 17 categories which include the Architectural Project of the Year, the Civil Engineering Project of the Year, the Environmental Impact Assessment Project of the Year, the Woman Project Manager of the Year, the Construction Financier of the Year, the Building Material Supplier of the Year and the Road and Public Works Project of the Year among others.

ZCIA was formed in 1994 as a voluntary umbrella body to bring together built environment stakeholders and to provide a forum and platform to deliberate and articulate matters of mutual concern. Its membership includes construction industry stakeholders such as the Construction Industry Federation of Zimbabwe (CIFOZ), the Real Estate Institute of Zimbabwe (REIZ), the Zimbabwe Institute of Geomatics (ZIG), the Institute of Architects of Zimbabwe (IAZ), the Zimbabwe Association of Consulting Engineers (ZACE), the Zimbabwe Institute of Quantity Surveyors (ZIQS), the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers (ZIE) and the Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZABCA).
