The African Marketing Confederation (AMC) is set to introduce marketing awards during its second annual conference which is pencilled to run from 6 to 9 September in Uganda. The confederation revealed this in an information pack that it released last week.

“As part of the 2nd Annual African Marketing Confederation Conference, taking place from 6th to 9th September at the Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel in the enchanting city of Entebbe, Uganda, this gala ceremony promises to be a remarkable gathering of visionaries and trailblazers in the marketing industry.

“Since its inception in 2011, the African Marketing Confederation has been at the forefront of revolutionising the marketing profession across Africa. Representing a ground breaking Pan-African body of marketing professionals, the AMC fosters collaboration between national marketing member bodies and associations, facilitating the exchange of expertise and knowledge while elevating the standards of marketing excellence across the continent. With a shared commitment to fostering growth and prosperity, the African Marketing Confederation Awards stand as a testament to the continent’s vibrant marketing landscape and the exceptional talents driving its success.

“(The) awards stand as a testament to the continent’s vibrant marketing landscape and the exceptional talents driving its success,” the African marketing body said.

The marketing body described ideal AMC Marketing Professional of the Year as epitomising a seasoned expert who integrates strategic thinking, creativity, and astute business acumen to propel marketing triumph and contribute significantly to organisational growth and profitability.

The AMC is inviting nominations from member associations as part of the awards process.

“We are looking for the ‘best of the best’ and encourage all AMC member association members to nominate the individuals you think should be recognised and deserving of a chance to be the AMC Marketing Professional of the Year 2023. All nominations will be judged by the AMC judging panel made up of marketing professionals and academics across the continent,” the continental marketing body said.

Entry for the awards is open to all marketing professionals in member countries who meet the entry criteria as outlined in this document.

The AMC described a typical marketing professional who qualifies for nomination as an individual who possesses or has possessed an elevated position within an organisation, specialising in the realm of marketing and is commonly referred to as a senior marketing professional.

They are distinguished by their extensive experience and remarkable proficiency in their field. The primary responsibilities of these individuals encompass the formulation and execution of strategic marketing plans, the management of marketing campaigns, and the facilitation of business expansion through the implementation of effective marketing strategies.

Additionally, nominees should be marketers who exhibit a profound comprehension of prevailing market trends, consumer behaviour patterns, and the competitive landscapes within their respective industries. They are expected to possess knowledge in various marketing channels, including digital marketing, social media, advertising, branding, and market research. The nominees should be people who showcase outstanding leadership abilities, which would enable them to effectively lead and oversee teams, offer guidance and mentor junior marketers.

The awards have two categories namely the        AMC Marketing Professional of the Year and the AMC Young Professional Marketer of the Year with the latter being open to marketing professionals between the ages of 25 to 35 years.

Founded in 2011, the AMC is a collaboration between African national marketing bodies and associations to exchange expertise and information, and to promote the marketing profession as a whole. Its founding members were the Institute of Marketing Management (IMM) of South Africa, the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ), the Zambian Institute of Marketing (ZIM), the Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK), the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) and the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN).

Over the years, other national marketing associations such as the Institute of Marketing in Malawi (IMM), the Institute of Marketing and Management Mauritius (IMM), the Moroccan Association of Marketing and Communications (AMMC) and the Ugandan Marketing Society (UMS) joined the confederation.

The inaugural AMC annual conference was held in Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls resort city last year.
