Event planner and supplier, Rooney’s Zimbabwe has postponed this year’s edition of the annual Extreme 15km Road Race which it co-hosts with the Harare Athletics Club (HAC) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s that time of year when Rooney’s/HAC would normally host their ever-popular start of the running season Extreme 15km Road Race – sadly due to COVID-19, we aren’t able to host the race this year… but we will still try to have a little fun,” said Rooney’s in a statement.

To mark the event and engage stakeholders, Rooney’s encouraged athletes to go ahead and run and stand a chance to win a lunch meal at a local restaurant.

“So, for any of you runners out there, anywhere in the world, who may be going out for a run this Sunday (13th September) throw on one of your favourite Rooney’s Run T-shirts – take a photo and share it with us.  The best or most unique photo will win a lunch for four people at The Village Greek – compliments of Rooney’s.  So get out there on Sunday. Dust off your shoes, find your favourite Rooney’s Run T-shirt and go and have some fun,” said Rooney’s.

Meanwhile, the company announced this week that going forward, it would be open for business on Saturdays in addition to week days.

“We are happy to announce that as lockdown restrictions are easing, we are now also open Saturday mornings from 0800 to 1200 hours,” the company said.
