The Institute of Directors Zimbabwe (IODZ) has called for nominations for the period January to December 2022 in preparation for the 2023 edition of the Director of the Year awards (DOYA), which are usually held in July or August. The institute issued the call in a media notice last week.
The directors’ body invited nominees for seven categories namely large and listed companies director of the year, small and medium enterprises director of the year, state-owned enterprises and parastatals director of the year, NGOs and CSOs director of the year, woman director of the year, young (35 years and younger) director the year and the CEO of the year.
The IODZ has also created new award categories to recognise and reward diversity and excellence among board of directors and quality of annual reports. The new categories are the best diverse company, the board of the year and the report of the year.
In line with the institute’s emphasis on results as the main basis for the awards, the IODZ insisted that nominations should be accompanied by the annual report of the nominated organisation or individual’s employer.
“Nominations should include organisation’s annual report, the award (category) for which the nominee is (being) nominated (and) the nominee’s name, telephone number and e-mail address, “ read part of the notice which IOD issued last week.
The nomination process is running until 9 June.
The IODZ introduced the DOYA award in 2005 to recognise the achievements of a single individual in Zimbabwe who would have distinguished himself or herself as a board member. The award is meant to recognise the individual’s contribution to his or her respective board’s direction, strategy, and corporate social responsibility.
The DOYA awards remain among the most respected business awards in Zimbabwe.
