Turning to other preparations for the event, the government official highlighted that, as of Friday last week, 596 direct exhibitors had registered to participate, compared to 428 who registered during the same period in 2024. He added that of these, 98 were exhibiting for the first time.

“In terms of current space booking situation, 95 percent has been booked to date, compared to 87 percent booked during the same period in 2024. ZITF Co headhunts project manager to implement ZICES plans

by Editorial Team March 29, 2025
written by Editorial Team

The Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Company is looking for a project manager as the business events organiser and venue owner pushes to implement the Zimbabwe International Conference and Exhibition Smart City (ZICES) master plan, which it announced last year.

The company developed a master plan to convert its 17-hectare property into a smart city which will feature a 5 000-seater international conference centre that will be linked to a 500-room hotel. A five-star boutique hotel with facilities to host travelling heads of state and VIPs will form part of the development. The master plan includes a retail shopping centre to provide daily convenience and offer visitors and residents a diverse range of retail, dining, and entertainment options.

The US$300 million project, whose master plan was crafted with the assistance of property developer, Terrace Africa, will be developed in stages using a public-private partnership (PPP) funding model. When the announcement was made, Terrace Africa was expected to kick off the project with the development of a shopping complex. The property developer put up a US$20 million shopping mall at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS)’s 25-hectare The Hub showground in Harare, which was completed late last year. The Hub is the venue of ZAS’ Zimbabwe Agricultural Show.

According to the vacancy notice issued this week, the project manager will report to the ZITF Company Chief Executive, Dr. Nicholas Ndebele. He or she will have the overall responsibility for the implementation of the master plan, planning and designating project resources, preparing budgets and monitoring the project’s progress. The project manager will also oversee the liaison function of the ZITF Company with stakeholders such as funding partners, leasees and regulatory authorities.

by Editorial Team March 16, 2025
written by Editorial Team

Saudi Arabia has handed over the registration dossier for World Expo 2030 Riyadh to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).

The registration dossier is an essential element in the organisation of the World Expo and its approval by the General Assembly of the BIE will confirm Saudi Arabia’s status as its organiser. Prepared in close coordination with the BIE Secretariat, the registration dossier was presented to the BIE Secretary General, Dimitri Kerkentzes by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to France, Fahad M. Al-Ruwaily.

Following its election as World Expo 2030 host country during the 173rd General Assembly of the BIE on 28 November 2023, Saudi Arabia now enters the phase which will see the formalisation of its Expo project. The registration dossier presents a detailed plan for the implementation of the Expo, including scheduled operational dates, legislative and financial measures, the Expo site Master Plan, the conditions for international participation and its legacy plans.

The registration dossier will be reviewed by the BIE Secretariat and Member States in order to prepare for the formal registration of Expo 2030 Riyadh by the General Assembly of the Organisation. Following the registration, Saudi Arabia will be able to begin Expo preparations in earnest and to invite international participants via diplomatic channels.

“The registration dossier is a comprehensive blueprint for Expo 2030 Riyadh, providing detailed information to guide the Organisers, Participants and the BIE in the next phases of the project. Its development, in close cooperation with the BIE, reflects the dedication of Saudi authorities at all levels to the meticulous preparation of the Expo,” Kerkentzes commented.

Organised under the theme “Foresight for Tomorrow”, Expo 2030 Riyadh aims to welcome over 200 countries and international organisations between 1 October 2030 and 31 March 2031.

World Expos, officially known as International Registered Exhibitions, are global gatherings of nations addressing universal challenges of the time. These unparalleled global events offer a journey inside a chosen theme through engaging and immersive activities. Taking place every five years and lasting up to six months, World Expos welcome tens of millions of visitors, allow countries to build extraordinary pavilions, and transform the host city for years to come.

10 Strategies to leverage stand branding to achieve exhibition goals

by Editorial Team March 16, 2025
written by Editorial Team

Leveraging exhibition stand branding effectively can significantly enhance your presence and assist in achieving your exhibition goals. Such goals include increasing brand awareness and recognition, engagement, lead nurturing and publicising a participation effort on social media platforms. Here are 10 strategies to consider:

1. Clear and consistent messaging

Exhibitions are part of marketing communications, which aim to promote corporate or product/service brands. It is therefore very important to ensure that your branding communicates a clear message aligned with your goals. Using consistent language, colours, logos, and taglines throughout the stand creates a unified brand identity.

This boosts brand recognition and clearly conveys your product/service value. Some of the local brands that use this strategy include Econet Wireless Zimbabwe.

2. Eye-catching design

Eye-catching stand designs attract the attention of exhibition visitors and improve the chances of them visiting the stand. Investing in an engaging and visually appealing design attracts attention from afar. To achieve this stand design should be contracted to professional entities with the requisite expertise and experience to come up with outstanding stands. Using high-quality graphics, signage, and creative layouts ensure that stand stands out in a crowded exhibition space.

This strategy increases foot traffic and draws attention to your stand.

3. Interactive elements

The incorporation of technology in the exhibition is no longer a nice-to-have but a must-have given the way it (technology) has become part of both life and business. Incorporate interactive technologies like touchscreens, virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) experiences to engage visitors and keep them interested. Interactive elements can leave a lasting impression and increase engagement. Exhibitions are experiential encounters between brands and visitors. Memorable exhibition experiences keep brands top of visitors’ minds, which aids brand awareness and recall. During the 2023 edition of the ZITF Econet Wireless Zimbabwe showcased a world-class stand featuring digital displays, LED screens, and interactive VR/AR demonstrations, making it the talk of the exhibition and winning the Information Communication Technology best exhibitor award and the President’s Award.

Another technological aspect to add is the use of quick response (QR) codes. These can be affixed to large exhibits such as displayed motor vehicles.  Agricultural equipment distributor, William Bain and Company used the strategy during the 2024 ADMA Agrishow. Visitors, who were pressed for time, could just scan the code to get information about the company and its products without engaging stand staff.

Strategies that engage visitors such as the use of technology enable exhibitors to gather data and generate leads.

4. Strong call-to-action (CTA)

Depending on your objective, sometimes a brand’s normal strapline is not enough. You need to include a clear and compelling CTA on your stand and marketing materials, such as “Sign up for a demo” or “Get a free consultation.” The CTA should be easy to find and encourage visitors to take the next step. This is ideal for encouraging visitors to try a new service brand.

The strategydrives conversion and lead generation.

5. Professional and friendly staff

Participants take part in exhibitions to market their brands. A brand is the sum of a product, service, or company’s overall identity, perception, and emotional connection with its audience, encompassing everything from its name and logo to its values and reputation. Therefore, the participating entity’s staff members manning the stand are expected uphold and market the brand through the way they serve visitors. This is why staff should be trained to be approachable, knowledgeable, and proactive in engaging visitors. A well-informed team that communicates the brand effectively is crucial to converting interest into leads.

Another way that exhibitors can levrage staff to put their brands’ best foot forward at exhibitions is the use of branded clothing to reinforce and complement their branded stand. This increases the touch points at which visitors see the brand’s visual identity which is being show cased at the show. The strategy reinforces the memory of the brand in visitors’ minds.

Ensuring that stand staff is professional builds relationships with potential customers and increases their trust in the exhibiting company and its brands.

6. Use of branded promotional items

Another way to complement the branded stand is the use of branded promotional products or giveaways. Offering visitors useful branded giveaways such as pens, tote bags, or USB drives keeps your brand top of visitors’ mind long after the event. The more useful and long lasting the promotional product is, the more it is likely to be used by the recipient way after the event. This prolongs its marketing function.

Using branded promotional items to complement a branded exhibition stand therefore aids brand recall and stay visible post-event.

7. Strategic placement of branding elements

Sometimes leveraging stand branding for exhibition success is not about the colour and size of logos and other graphics.  Ensuring your logo, brand name, and key messages are positioned prominently and at eye level for maximum visibility goes a long way in drawing visitors to the stand. Using large, clear visuals that are legible from a distance draws visitors’ attention even from a distance.

This strategy maximises brand visibility and recognition.

8. Showcase products or services

While a well-branded stand draws the attention of visitors, poorly displayed exhibits may be an exhibitor’s undoing. Displaying your products or services prominently makes it easy for visitors and other stakeholders to interact with or understand them. Using product demonstrations or videos to showcase their features and benefits assists visitors to understand them.

Showcasing exhibits expertly educates visitors on your offerings and creates tangible interest which, if subjected to lead nurturing, can result in conversion into customers.

9. Utilize social media and digital integration

The use of social media can complement your branded stand in meeting your exhibition and marketing goals. Use your exhibition stand as a hub for digital engagement. Incorporate social media feeds, hashtag campaigns, or digital contests to encourage visitors to interact online and share their experiences at your stand. Space permitting, you could add a branded selfie frame near your stand and encourage visitors to take selfies and post them in your company’s social media page as a way of publicising your stand and participation effort. They can also post them on their own pages and groups, thereby increasing the reach of the event and your brand’s participation on social media.

This strategy enables you to amplify your brand’s reach and engage a broader audience online.

10. Sustainability and eco-friendly messaging

We are living in era when sustainable business practices are valued very much as society and business strive to attain profit in ways that are mindful of communities (people) they operate in and the planet. If possible, incorporate sustainable materials and eco-friendly practices in your exhibition stand design. Displaying your commitment to sustainability can attract environmentally conscious consumers.

This strategy enables you and your brand to align with current trends and appeal to socially responsible visitors.

If you utilise these strategies or a combination of them effectively, your exhibition stand can serve as a powerful tool to engage visitors, generate leads, and leave a lasting impact on your target audience. This improves the chances of achieving your exhibition participation goals and targets.

This came out of the IATF Advisory Council meeting held in the Algerian capital, Algiers last weekend to discuss the host country’s state of preparedness for the trade fair, which is slated for 4 to 10 September.

The meeting was attended by the Advisory Council’s Deputy Chairman, Jean-Loius Ekra, the African Import and Export Bank (Afreximbank) President and Chairman, Professor Benedict Oramah, Algerian Minister of External Trade and Export Promotion, Mohamed Boukhari, the African Union Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry, and Minerals, Albert Muchanga and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) representative, Kanayo Awani.

The IATF organisers indicated that the council was happy with the progress made in preparing for the exhibition.

“The Advisory Council was pleased with the progress and reaffirmed its commitment to making IATF2025 a transformative platform for African trade and investment,” the organisers said.

Algeria expressed its commitment to ensure excellent stakeholder experiences during the event.     .

“Honourable Boukhari highlighted Algeria’s readiness to host, ensuring the smooth facilitation of visas, customs, and other logistics to provide an excellent experience for all participants,” said the organisers.

The IATF is an initiative of the Afreximbank and the African Union. Its aim is to promote the AfCFTA initiative through bringing together African countries using the continental exhibition and other initiatives. The inaugural edition of the IATF was held in Cairo, Egypt in 2018, while the second was hosted by South Africa in 2021. Egypt hosted the biennial event again in 2023. ZITF rolls out regional road shows

by Editorial Team February 26, 2025
written by Editorial Team

The Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Company is set to embark on road shows to market this year’s edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair to the region.

An invitation seen by Business Events showed that the first such event is slated for Hotel Sky in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa on 28 February. The event, whose attendance is by invitation, is being organised by the ZITF Company and the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa. The document described the event as “an exclusive gathering of forward thinking business leaders.”

The event is expected to focus on trade and investment opportunities in the Zimbabwe.

“As part of the ZITF Regional Roadshows initiative, this event will spotlight lucrative trade and investment opportunities in Zimbabwe while strengthening regional collaboration,” read part of the invitation.

The ZITF Company board Chairman, Busisa Moyo explained the initiative in a LinkedIn post yesterday.

“This year our slant at the ZITF Company is to spotlight the manufacturing sector and industrialisation from an exhibition point of view as well as foregrounding conversation (on) the science of industrial scale production and productivity concepts,” he posted.

Moyo also indicated that the choice of South as the first country to host the regional road shows was influenced by the fact that Zimbabwe’s southern neighbour is its most important trade partner.

“South Africa is the biggest stockholder of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Zimbabwe and arguably still our most significant trading partner. A lot of manufacturing equipment, raw materials and finished goods still come from South Africa. We are keen to meet with groups who supply the first two so that they participate in our 65th edition this year,” he explained.

This year’s edition of the ZITF, which coincides with the exhibition’s 65th anniversary, is slated for 21 to 26 April under the theme: “Industrialisation: Crafting an Integrated Economic Landscape.”
